Kalnciema Quarter – A Story of Urban Revival
(per adult)

About excursion
Discover one of Riga’s most distinctive places – Kalnciema Quarter, where 19th-century wooden architecture meets contemporary culture, art, and local food life.
During this one-hour guided walk, learn how this once-quiet suburban cluster of wooden houses has transformed into a vibrant and inspiring neighbourhood, loved by locals and travellers alike for over 15 years.
During the tour you will:
• step inside historical courtyards and wooden houses usually closed to the public;
• learn about Latvia’s wooden architectural heritage and the art of its restoration;
• sense the area’s creative spirit – its food and crafts market, gallery, cafés, legendary Thursday concerts, and the story of the Dambergs brothers, founders of Kalnciema Quarter.
On Saturdays, when the farmers’ market is in full swing, the tour includes a local tasting experience – a walk through the market with stories of Latvian farmers and artisans, complemented by seasonal product tastings such as smoked goods, cheeses, hemp butter, sweets, and other rural flavours. It’s a chance to experience Latvia’s slow-living and sustainable food culture.
After the tour, group dining can be arranged either on-site in Kalnciema Quarter or in nearby cafés, offering seasonal meals from local produce.
Kalnciema Quarter is a living urban story – authentic, inspiring, and full of life.
